Garv’s Pick of the Week: The Night Stalker [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: With the help of producer Dan Curtis (Dark Shadows) and writer Richard Matheson (The Twilight Zone), actor Darren McGavin created the indelible character of reporter/reluctant monster hunter Carl Kolchak. This TV Movie garnered the most viewers up until that time (a 54 share), and it was so well received that it led to a follow-up film and a television series. McGavin and Carl Kolchak are very dear to my heart, so I am giddy that this is getting a Blu-ray release.

The Night Strangler [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: The Carl Kolchak follow-up film also gets the Blu-ray treatment from Kino Lorber. It is nearly as good as the first, so it is also highly recommended.
The Naked Prey [Blu-ray / Criterion]: Cornel Wilde directs and stars in this adventure/thriller about a hunt of “the most dangerous game.”
The Spiral Staircase [Blu-ray / Kino Lorber]: A noirish horror about a serial killer from Hollywood’s golden age. Color me intrigued.
