We Have a New Look
Greetings, fellow cinephiles,
Due to technical issues earlier in the week, It Came From the Bottom Shelf has a new look. The change was unexpected and by necessity. Still, it was time for a bit of a “Spring clean,” and I’m not displeased by the result. I will probably make a few tweaks over the next few weeks, but for now, the layout is set.
Since I had to rethink the look of the site, I found myself considering the contents as well. After pondering what It Came From the Bottom Shelf is and what it should be, I have come to a decision to be a bit more selective about what I post. I want to get back to my original vision for this site as a vehicle to recommend films, specifically forgotten classics, lesser-known gems, and oddball discoveries.
You can still expect my “Garv’s Pick of the Week” column, movie and video reviews, and alerts to limited-time sales. However, I plan to post fewer upcoming Blu-ray announcements. The monthly announcements from Criterion, Arrow Video, Twilight Time, Kino Lorber, and other labels can easily be found on several excellent websites including Blu-ray.com, Home Theater Forum, and The Digital Bits, so there isn’t much need for me to post them as well. Instead, I will limit my “upcoming releases” posts to smaller niche videos that are underreported, titles that deserve extra recognition, and films that are near to my heart.
I hope you enjoy this relaunch of It Came From the Bottom Shelf. By the way, if you don’t recognize the photos in this post, you really need to check out The Love God? (1969), starring Don Knotts and written and directed by the great Nat Hiken (creator of The Phil Silvers Show).
Cheers,
garv
